When a dancer teams up with a bodybuilder, expect a show with real muscle – LITERALLY. Maximum is a duet between a female contemporary dancer and male professional bodybuilder, in which the unlikely duo perform a series of movement tasks and intense acts of physical endurance.
Maximum reveals subtle truths about the nature of human physicality as dance and bodybuilding collide, under sweltering lighting with a throbbing soundtrack. This is a work of extremes and contrasts: big and small, heavy and light, hard and soft, all unravelling to highlight the ability of two diverse bodies to achieve unity through performance (and a lot of sweat).
Maximum debuted as part of Next Wave 2014, has toured to Avignon OFF Festival in France, Score Festival at Performance Space in Sydney, Dancehouse during Dance Massive in Melbourne, PICA, Perth and La Boite, Brisbane. The work was supported by residencies at Arts House, Lucy Guerin Inc, PACT and Chunky Move.
“Beautifully achieved, exhilarating work.”

“A strange and intriguing meditation into the degradation of bodies through exercise, but also in the ability for the body to keep pushing through.”
